Business News - St. Patrick's Day

Important Information

St. Patrick’s Day is almost here, and we’re excited to see the energy and celebration it brings to downtown. As we get ready for a fun weekend, the DRI team wanted to share a few friendly reminders for you and your staff.

We kindly ask everyone to show a little extra patience with the Downtown Roanoke Ambassador team during cleanup on Sunday and Monday. They’ll be out early working hard to get everything cleaned up as quickly as possible.

Your understanding and support truly make a difference, and we appreciate it more than you know. Thank you for everything you do to help keep Downtown Roanoke welcoming, vibrant, and ready for a great holiday weekend.

-The DRI team

Downtown will be buzzing with energy as the Freedom First St. Patrick’s Day Parade & Shamrock Festival returns on March 14 from 10:00 am-5:00 pm and we’re excited to welcome thousands of visitors into the district for a full day of celebration.

Your typical parking lot/garage entrance may be blocked, so remind your staff members to plan accordingly.

Solid Waste Reminder

An influx of traffic means an influx of trash! Please remember to dispose of your trash and recycling appropriately. If a trash compactor is full, please use the next closest one.

Upcoming Downtown Construction

& Detour Information

The City of Roanoke and Roanoke Stormwater have shared a quick update on upcoming infrastructure work that may affect access and deliveries in parts of downtown.

The 1st Street project: Due weather delays & constraints around St. Patrick’s Day celebrations, the city has moved the start date to March 16th. This will push the project end date to around the end of May. At this time, the traffic control plan is to work within sidewalks & parking areas to allow thru traffic. Road closures should be limited.

The Kirk Avenue stormwater project (between Jefferson and Market) is anticipated to begin in early April at the soonest. As part of this work, a temporary loading zone will be marked on Kirk Avenue on the east side of Market Street SE, near Ladles & Linens. This signage and marking will be handled by the contractor as outlined in the traffic control plan.
